Flying February and Mad March, 2016
Ah, it feels great to be blogging again. Since my last post in early February, things have been a little hectic. Work, schoolwork, activities, and a bit of work and spring break travel pulled attention and time away. So, here is a quick set of snapshots to commemorate the latest in travel and fun:
South Carolina: This work trip brought decent but not extraordinary meals, and much colder and windier weather than I had hoped for. The marshes that I saw driving from Columbia to the low country were quite beautiful, though. Beaufort had lots of promise, but everything was closed up tight by the time I got there. Next time....
Granite Peak, Wausau: The annual family ski trip. I have new ski duds, so had to go at least once to show them off.
Mt. Bohemia, Michigan: A shout out to this rustic, way-up-yonder ski mountain that is in the Upper Peninsula, or the "you pee" if you will. Jeff made the 12+ hour round trip, not once, but twice this season, taking the boy with on the second round. My take: Caprese Salad in the dead of winter? Cool! Yurts? Nope. Next year I'll try out the cabins, though. Jeff took really great pictures, so I will feature this on my next post. Expert skiers only, so it's snowshoes for me when I join them on this trip.
Chicago: Ducked into Nordstrom Rack for a quick look around before a meeting. Didn't captivate me. However, the view from the 39th floor of a lovely retirement tower on Chicago's Gold Cost did. Lovely! Couldn't make SpotHero parking work out for me this time around, but will give it another try. Dinged up a bumper of the work fleet car in the teeny-tiny garage space. Grrr... End of the afternoon found me in the neighborhood of Fort Sheridan, IL. I knew something was different right as I drove in - it is a really neat area with lots of history, and gorgeous converted barracks and officer housing.

Highlights from this year's Florida trip for me:
- Watching a fisherman on the shore bring in a giant catch - and I was happy that it wasn't, like the little girl who was screaming in delight/terror, a stingray, because I LOVE stingrays. Even cooler, the guy threw the fish back in.
- Spring breaker college guy wearing gold lame swim trunks. Hilarious.
- Coconut donut from the Donut Hole. Mmmmm yum.
- Enjoying the Badgers make it to the Sweet 16 and watching with my family and other Wisconsin folks in the local sports bar.
- Clay tennis courts. Always.
Happy belated Spring!
