Year end musings on new adventures

My sister sent met a link to an article, and it perfectly summed up what I have been trying to do but didn't realize it until I saw the title of the article:   Make Each Year of Your Life More Interesting than the One Before.

The author, Srinvis Rao, started making lists of all the interesting, new things he had experienced that year.  Since I love making lists(!) I thought I would take a stab at my own list for 2016:

  • Trying out and being in a musical theater performance
  • Taking bikes to another state and riding on a new trail
  • Taking tap dancing lessons
  • Performing on stage in a tap routine (different from the lessons and it was, frankly, quite terrifying)
  • Taking a musical theater class (one of my best experiences this year)
  • Trying out for a dance troupe extra
  • Taking the train into downtown Chicago.  This may seem like a silly one, but I am reminded by efforts like this that doing something in a different way, instead of driving there as I typically do, opens up new options but it is hard changing your habits and sometimes I prefer not to learn new things. I barely made the train, but I not only did it, I also got back to my car at the end of the evening.  It's the little things sometimes.
One of the things the author also recommended was saying "Yes" to more things.  Actually, I found that saying "No" first allowed me to make more space in order to try new things.
There seems to be a predominant theme in my list.  I hereby proclaim 2016 as my Year of Dance!

What's up for  the rest of this year and for 2017?  Some possibilities are:

  • Something I don't know yet that I am going to do in Kenya.  Heck, I can't even begin to plan or anticipate this one.
  • Tap 2
  • Singing lessons
  • Another musical in which I do something different, like have a line or two or dance different styles.
  • Becoming a redhead for a year
  • Who knows?
